How to connect a mixer to your computer

One of the best way to get a good sound from your home recording on a budget is to buy yourself an audio mixer. A mixer will help get a clean sound from whatever your using to make the music with, you can set levels, record multiple instruments, and it give you more flexibility in knowing exactly what's going into the computer. The size of the mixer will depend on what you want it for, if your just going to be recording guitar and vocals, a small mixer is all you'll need, if you want to record something bigger like drums, you might want to look at buying a larger mixer.

Equipment you'll need to connect an audio mixer to your computer

  • Mixer
  • Computer with a sound card
  • 1/8 inch cable to twin phono connection

Mixer input and output leads

Now that you have what's needed, all you need to do it plug the lead into the outputs on the mixer. The outputs are the (usually) red and white outputs that have the phono type connection. Then the other end of the lead goes into the input of your sound card.

And that's it, all your instruments will now go through the mixer and you should be able to manage your sound a whole lot easier.
