How to Hammer-on on guitar
Hammer-ons are a different method of picking and can often be used to play more notes faster. Hammering-on is a technique that you pick one note and play another after it without re-picking.
Start by fretting a note, we'll say the 5th fret on the d string. Done? Now get ready to play that note, but get ready with your 3rd finger over the 7th fret. Now pick the note on the 5th fret, the without re-picking the note, quickly fret the 7th fret so it rings the note, you mite have to press down fairly quickly and hard. If you do this right,, the note on the seventh fret will sound. If the note didn’t ring, you may not have put your finger down fast enough or with enough force.. Keep trying it, and you will end up getting the second note to ring nice and clean.
This is how the hammer-on is shows in tab form.
Think about:
- Make sure your putting your second finger directly down onto the string, if you don’t do this right it could result in the hammer-on not working.
- Repeat this technique with different notes on different strings.
